Gwendolyn (Gwen) Johnson Ericson, 78, of Austin, went to be with her beloved Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, December 17, 2015, after a hard-fought battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis.
Gwen was born on June 16, 1937, in Taylor, Texas, to Loraine and Gunnar Johnson. She graduated from Austin High School in 1955 and married Ralph Ericson on August 18, 1956.
Gwen was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband Ralph Ericson in 1979, and more recently by long-time companion Earl Hunt in 2014.
She is survived by her son, Randy Ericson and wife, Toni; grandson Chris Ericson and fiancée, Amela Hot; granddaughter Jennifer Erickson and husband, Brian; and great-grandson Reid Erickson.
Gwen is also survived by her sister, Loretta Dube and husband, Oscar; sister-in-law Marie Jones and husband, Don; niece Sherry Dube Markert, nephews Duane Dube, Paul Jones, Stephen Jones and their families, as well as many extended family members and friends. She was especially close to two of her godchildren, Sherry and Duane.
Gwen worked for the State Comptroller's office for 23 years. She volunteered for many MDA Telethons. She was a faithful member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church and enjoyed serving on the altar guild for about fifty years.
Gwen, known affectionately as Mimi by her grandchildren, loved cooking, going on cruises, gardening and working in her beautiful yard, as well as talking on the phone. She was a big sports fan and enjoyed watching all UT sports, with a special love for attending UT men's basketball games.
Gwen, Mom, Mimi, Aunt Gwen was loved by many and will be deeply missed.

Memorials may be given to Gethsemane Lutheran Church or your favorite charity.

Visitation will be held from 6-8pm Tuesday December 22, 2015 at Austin-Peel and Son Funeral Home 607 East Anderson Lane Austin, Texas 78752. Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:30 am Wednesday December 23, 2015 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church followed by Interment at Memorial Hill Cemetery in Pflugerville.
