Quie Kay Branum-Blum, PhD, CRNP

Kay Branum-Blum passed away in her home in Taylor, Texas on May 30, 2017. She was born October 17, 1948, in Elgin Texas.
She was a 1967 graduate of Elgin High School. She attended Baylor University and graduated from their nursing school in 1971.
Kay joined the Army Nurse Corp in 1970 and served for 3 years active duty in Germany during the Vietnam War and 17 years in the reserves. She retired with the rank of Captain.
After returning from Germany, Kay went to Texas Women's University (TWU) in Dallas and received not only her Master's Degree but also her Doctorate in nursing. She taught nursing in several different colleges and universities through the years. She was a member of American College of Cardiology and participated in developing procedures for cardiac care. Kay was both a clinical nurse specialist and an acute care nurse practitioner. She was a much sought-after speaker and has been published over 30 times. She was a role model for future generations and a tireless advocate for her profession, peers and her patients. She is preceded in death by her father LaRoy Branum of Elgin, Texas and by her mother Virginia Alsup Vincent of Memphis, Tennessee.
She leaves a sister, Paula Branum, from Plano, Texas and many friends such as Beverly Snowden and Betty Ballard who were instrumental in her care in the last days of her life.
She will be cremated and placed in the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas on Friday, June 9th at 2:00 p.m.
She will be greatly missed by all her many friends and colleagues, not only from the Elgin, Texas area, but also all over the United States.
